Patricia Kavanaugh

I'm an artist, filmmaker and musician living in The Bay Area of California. Thanks so much for stopping by to check out my work!

I was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI. I first went to college in Boulder, CO where I studied Film with Stan Brakhage and Phil Solomon. The hand-painted films of Brakhage were beyond my realm of understanding as an 18 year old film student and it wasn't until later in my studies that I realized the profound impact his films and all experimental filmmaking had on me. After my second year, I transferred to the San Franciso Art Institute to continue my film and art education. There I was lucky enough to study with Lawrence Jordan and George Kuchar, both of whom served as teachers and mentors to me.

Upon graduation, I went to work at the Film Arts Foundation, a non-profit organization geared towards supporting the independent film community in San Francisco. I left the Bay Area for southern California after being accepted to the Masters program in Animation at UCLA.

I worked in the Visual Effects industry for over 10 years, working with renowned companies like Sony Imageworks, Industrial Light & Magic, and Rhythm & Hues. For a year and a half I lived and worked in the burgeoning effects city of Vancouver, BC. Now I am currently pursuing my passion in animation and teaching as a Assistant Professor of Animation at California College of the Arts.

I am still actively making my own short films and art. I also play music, writing scores for short films and also playing with bands. I'm a multi-instrumentalist but primarily play guitar and drums.

I am currently playing drums in an experimental Oakland-based band called Brookhaven
